Creating a prompt group is the first step to tracking how your brand appears across AI answers for a specific topic. A good prompt group should focus on one clear service, product, location, category, or buying decision.

How the prompt group flow works

When you create a prompt group, Serpy helps you build the prompts to track. The flow usually looks like this:
  1. You enter the topic you want to track.
  2. Serpy suggests prompts based on that topic and your brand context.
  3. You review the suggested prompts.
  4. You select the prompts you want to track.
  5. You can add your own custom prompts if needed.
  6. Serpy creates the prompt group.
  7. The selected prompts begin tracking.
This means you do not need to come up with every prompt manually. Serpy gives you a starting point, and you choose the prompts that best match your market.

Before you create a prompt group

Choose a topic that matters to your business. Good topics are usually tied to something your customers may research before buying. Examples:
  • SEO services
  • project management software
  • accounting firms in Toronto
  • CRM for small businesses
  • ecommerce platforms
  • marketing automation tools
Avoid topics that are too broad, such as “marketing” or “software.” A focused topic will give you clearer prompt suggestions and better results.

How to create a prompt group

  1. Go to AI Visibility.
  2. Open Prompt Groups.
  3. Click Create Prompt Group.
  4. Enter the topic you want to track.
  5. Choose the country or market you want to track.
  6. Review the suggested prompts Serpy generates.
  7. Select the prompts you want to track.
  8. Add any custom prompts you want to include.
  9. Create the prompt group.
Once created, Serpy will start tracking the selected prompts in that group.

Choosing the right topic

The topic should match something your audience would ask about. For example, if you are an SEO agency, a strong topic might be:
  • SEO agencies in Toronto
  • SEO consultants
  • local SEO services
  • ecommerce SEO agency
A weaker topic would be:
  • SEO
  • marketing
  • websites
The stronger topic gives Serpy more useful context and creates better visibility insights.

Reviewing suggested prompts

Serpy suggests prompts to help you start tracking faster. Suggested prompts are based on the topic you entered and the context Serpy has about your brand. When reviewing suggestions, choose prompts that:
  • sound like real customer questions
  • match your products or services
  • are specific enough to produce useful answers
  • represent different parts of the buying journey
  • could realistically lead someone to choose a brand like yours
You do not need to select every suggestion. Choose the ones that are most relevant.

Adding custom prompts

You can also add your own prompts. Custom prompts are useful when you already know specific questions your customers ask. Examples:
  • Which SEO agency is best for Shopify stores?
  • What is the best CRM for a 10-person sales team?
  • Which accounting firm works with SaaS companies?
Use custom prompts when you want to track a specific angle, audience, or buying situation.

Choosing a country

The country you choose affects how prompts are tracked. Different countries can produce different AI answers because brands, sources, and recommendations may change by market. Choose the country where your target customers are located. If you serve multiple markets, create separate prompt groups for important countries or regions.

What happens after creation

After the prompt group is created, Serpy begins collecting results. Once results are ready, you can review:
  • brand mentions
  • competitors
  • citations
  • sources
  • raw answers
  • recommendations
  • content opportunities
This helps you understand where your brand appears and where you may need to improve.

Tips

Start with one important topic before creating more prompt groups. Use Serpy’s suggested prompts as a starting point, then add custom prompts if needed. Do not track every suggestion just because it appears. Choose the prompts that matter most. Use prompts that sound natural and specific. Choose the country that matches your target audience. Do not only track prompts that mention your brand name.
