Prompts are the questions Serpy tracks inside a prompt group. Managing prompts helps you keep each prompt group focused, useful, and aligned with the questions your customers actually ask.

What prompts are for

Prompts help Serpy understand how AI platforms answer questions related to your topic. Each prompt should represent a question or search someone might ask before choosing a product, service, company, or solution. Examples:
  • What are the best SEO agencies in Toronto?
  • Which CRM is best for small businesses?
  • How do I choose an accounting firm?
  • What are the best project management tools for remote teams?
The better your prompts are, the more useful your visibility results will be.

Adding prompts

You can add prompts to an existing prompt group when you want to track more questions around the same topic. Use this when:
  • you think of a new customer question
  • you want to track a new angle
  • you want to cover another part of the buying journey
  • Serpy suggests a prompt that looks useful
Keep added prompts closely related to the prompt group topic.

Suggested prompts

Serpy can suggest prompts based on your prompt group topic and brand context. Suggested prompts help you quickly expand your tracking without starting from a blank page. When reviewing suggestions, choose prompts that:
  • sound like real customer questions
  • match your business
  • are specific enough to be useful
  • could influence a buying decision
  • fit the topic of the prompt group
You do not need to accept every suggestion.

Custom prompts

Custom prompts let you add your own questions manually. Use custom prompts when you already know what your customers ask or when you want to track a specific angle. Examples:
  • Which SEO agency is best for Shopify stores?
  • What is the best CRM for a 10-person sales team?
  • Which accounting firm works with SaaS companies?
Custom prompts are useful for tracking niche markets, specific audiences, or important buying questions.

Removing prompts

You can remove prompts that are no longer useful. Consider removing a prompt if it is:
  • too broad
  • unrelated to the prompt group topic
  • not useful for your business
  • too similar to another prompt
  • unlikely to produce meaningful results
Keeping prompt groups focused makes the results easier to understand.

Prompt limits

Your plan includes a set number of prompts. Prompts count toward your plan when they are added for tracking. If you reach your prompt limit, you may need to remove less important prompts or upgrade your plan before adding more.

What makes a good prompt

Good prompts are clear, specific, and sound natural. A good prompt usually includes:
  • a clear question
  • a topic
  • a customer need
  • a service, product, category, or use case
  • sometimes a location or audience
Example: Good: What are the best SEO agencies for ecommerce brands? Too broad: SEO agencies Good: Which project management tool is best for remote creative teams? Too broad: Project management Review prompts regularly to make sure the group still matches your goals. A simple workflow is:
  1. Open the prompt group.
  2. Review the current prompts.
  3. Add useful suggested prompts.
  4. Add custom prompts for important customer questions.
  5. Remove prompts that are too broad or off-topic.
  6. Review results after the next refresh.

Tips

Use prompts that sound like real questions. Avoid adding multiple prompts that ask the same thing in slightly different words. Keep each prompt group focused on one topic. Use suggested prompts for ideas, but only accept the ones that matter. Add custom prompts when you know a specific question is important to your customers.
